The Bastion of the Jaw. With two battlements on the large curtain wall to be used as a point for archers, it has been the prime defense between the Land of Stillness and the Radiant Empire since Balthazar constructed it. Later, it had been heavily damaged by some beast, but in recent years, Commander Hawthorne has ordered reconstruction to strengthen the keep’s defenses.
With a two sectioned wall system, the main gate with a small courtyard and two gate houses on either side, primarily to be used for visitors waiting for clearance into the keep itself and should ever an attack on the keep happen, used to contain an invasion force into a confined space before reaching the second gate and subjugated to attacks from the forces on the wall above. Both the main gate and the second gate are made of pure metal with a metal portcullis
system for both as well. The second gate has a machicolation
system above as well for invaders.
The Bastion is also enchanted to keep most Wraithwalkers and Undead out. In times of siege, these wards are even further enforced to keep all forces out, but not impenetrable. However it will need to take a strong force itself to breach the ward and then contend the physical defenses.
Bastion Inner Ward:Courtyard
Inside the largest curtain wall is the keep itself with various other buildings:
- Right after the second gate, this area is a large space used for various occasions and where the Knights will gather when called upon for action.Stables
- After the large curtain wall, it would be on the left side, pressed up against the wall itself. The Stables are quite large and divided into two sections since Knights use a variety of Mounts.Small Garden
- It is located a little beyond the stables on the same side. This small garden has been enchanted to ward off the cold so that plants, mainly vegetables, may grow.Granary
- This building is located on the left side after the large curtain wall, pressed up against the wall itself and close to the garden, it is where the stores of animal feed and food is held.Storage Shed
- This building is located on the right side after the large curtain wall, pressed up against the wall itself, this is where surplus goods are stored and some arms and armaments. Smithy
- Located right next to the storage shed, here blacksmiths may be able to create or fix armor and weapons.Training Grounds
- Or as otherwise known as, the parade grounds, here people within the radiant knights go for training and practice for various types of weapons.
The Keep: Tower of the Jaw
There are several attachments to the Keep itself and can still have access to the main tower.
- The main and tallest tower with twelve floors.
-The Basement this area deeper under the actual tower itself and under quite a few feet of solid rock to buffer any noise from below. It has three levels underneath, the closest to the First Floor is used as something of a storage area and a place for guards stationed to relax while residing over the protection of the last parts of the basement, the next two floors down are the cells, used to lock up criminals and fugitives that would later be transported to the Radiant Empire for trials.
-The First Floor is where there is a main lobby with stairs on either side and a lift (like an elevator with chains and pulleys and it is well maintained, the lift itself leads up to all floors, but not the roof) in the back that lead up.
-The Second Floor is where there is a small dinning hall and kitchen area for the tower of the Jaw.
-The Third Floor is where another baths is located, divided into two sections for either gender with a small washroom. Both baths and washroom are fed water through a piping system.
-The Fourth Floor is more of a lounging area with various tables, seats and the like as well as some book cases filled with books, scrolls and various forms of other literature. Here there are other forms of activities to do when not on duty or merely passing time with things like chess, dice, cards, playing instruments, etc. This area is more lavishly decorated than the others throughout the keep to make a calmer setting.
-The Fifth Floor this is where the first barracks are, where Squires, Sergeants and some lower ranking Knights bunk together.
-The Sixth Floor this is where the second barracks are, where Squires, Sergeants and some lower ranking Knights bunk together.
-The Seventh Floor this is where the third barracks are, where Squires, Sergeants and some lower ranking Knights bunk together.
-The Eighth Floor is where the single quarters for people of higher command, higher ranking Knights, Marshals, Seneschals, are.
-The Ninth Floor is where the single quarters for people of higher command, higher ranking Knights, Marshals, Seneschals, are.
-The Tenth Floor is where some of the offices for Seneschals and some Marshals are along with other figures such as treasurer and the like.
-The Eleventh Floor is where the war room is located, where plans are discussed about battles.
-The Twelfth Floor is where the Commander’s Office and five rooms are for the highest ranking officers along with the Commander’s himself.
-The Roof of the Tower of the Jaw is off limits to many but a few people, this is also where the light beacon is lit, a ball of pure light magic that glows brightly, to warn Ordo Exorcista that the Radiant Knights call for aid should the worst happen.Chapel of the Silent
- The second tallest tower within the Bastion of the Jaw, but it serves a few purposes. The Chapel obtained it’s name because of the solace and quiet within.
-The First Floor is the lobby with some adjoining rooms with desks, here some lessons are taught to those who are within the Radiant Knights and learning magic, but not really to the part of preforming more dangerous ones.
-The Second Floor is the magical studies, this is where there is alchemy, healing and various kinds of legal magic are preformed and practiced for those versed in magic. This area has been warded off to prevent destructive magics and sporadic spells from damaging the keep. It has also become known as the ‘ward chamber’ for it’s purpose.
-The Third Floor this is the beginnings of the Library that extends to onto the next floor, a place of calm and quiet where the shelves reach up to the ceiling and is chalked full of books, scrolls and various texts.
-The Fourth Floor is the continuation of the Library, a place of calm and quiet where the shelves reach up to the ceiling and is chalked full of books, scrolls and various texts.
-The Fifth Floor is the Chapel itself and where the light comes in the most. Here the people of the knights may practice the religion taught by the praetors, this is also a place of solitude and prayer and considered to be holy.Halls of the Jaw
- The widest of all of the towers and the third tallest by a fraction.
-The First Floor is where the dinning hall or otherwise known as grand hall, here it is large enough to host the majority of the knights to dine, there is also a sectioned off area for the kitchen and a large fireplace to keep the room warm.
-The Second Floor is some more barracks to host the bulk of the knight’s forces along with the staff itself.
-The Third Floor is some more barracks to host the bulk of the knight’s forces along with the staff itself. It also has an outside area for patrols.
-The Roof is an open space, but has access to by Radiant Knight personnel nonetheless. Oftentimes there will be a patrol up there. Tower of the Dawn
- The smallest overall of the keep’s buildings. It obtained it’s name for being the most eastern tower of the four and thus getting the first dawn’s rays.
-The First Floor is a living area and also where people can take time for a break.
-The Second Floor this is where the keep has it’s large baths, divided into two sections by one hall to separate genders. The washroom is also located here for laundry as well. Both baths and washroom are fed water through a piping system.
-The Third Floor this is where the guest rooms of the keep are. They are usually decorated lavishly to make the guests feel more at ease. It also has an outside area for patrols.
-The Roof is an open space, but has access to by Radiant Knight personnel nonetheless. Oftentimes there will be a patrol up there.
Both battlements are constructed the same with four levels, the base level holding some supplies (armor, weapons, some food, etc.) and tables for a break room; the second level containing some bunks for those who need a quick rest; the top level for patrols only, this is also the area, should a siege happen, where archers will fire out at the opposing force; and the roof for patrols only.
Eastern Battlement- It surveys most of the Ashen Forest and more off towards God’s Reach.
Western Battlement- It surveys mostly the mountains and more of the checkpoint structure as well as a brief glimpse of the fringes of the Radiant Empire itself.
To the right of the picture above that leads off to a smaller enclosed and walled off area with two gates, the checkpoint between the Radiant Empire and the Land of Stillness that all must pass through to get to the other side. It is the only entry/exit to either Nation between the two lands. The underside of the bridge is barred off with magic to prevent anyone from trying to pass underneath and avoid the checkpoint. There are also regular patrols upon the bridge. In times of Emergency there is a metal gate that will be closed along with a metal portcullis before it.
There is not much known about the tunnels, some are rumors, some are said to be collapsed, some are known and regularly patrolled by a few trusted individuals. Only the trusted knights and staff, ones that are within the Commander’s small circle which extends beyond just Seneschals at times. Who knows if the Commander has someone of low ranking to watch the others and entrusted them with some of these passages and perhaps a little more... But it seems only the Commander and the retired Commander truly know the workings of all these tunnels. (Contact the faction moderator for this information and if it would be allowed.)
